Long, long ago, in 2021, a major player in the rental car space made a major bet. Hertz said it would

buy 100,000 Teslas in an effort to expand its EV lineup. The news came just months after a roughly

$4 billion restructuring plan saved the company from bankruptcy, according to automotive news.

And investors loved this new

plan, which sent the brand stock price up 40% over two weeks. But alas, the idea may have been more

pie in the sky than done deal. Hertz did move forward with purchasing tens of thousands of

Teslas, which it's now selling off.

Lower demand from drivers, plus expensive repairs as a result of some of those drivers,

brought Hertz's plans for EV rental domination skidding to a halt.

The chain has been forced to sell many of those Teslas at very low prices.
