We know, however, that this is not always the case. On May 7, 1996, a man pleaded guilty in a case that saw three teenagers

spending an evening together, and only two walking out with their lives. So if you like your coffee hot, but your bones chilled,

sit back and start your day with a morning cup of murder. Nicholas Scher was just 15 years old

when he and his cousin, 16-year-old James Stroh met 18-year-old Candice Rough Surface in Mobridge, South Dakota, the young girl who they would

forcibly drag into a field, rape, and then shoot five times before throwing her body into a nearby

waterway. The trio just so happened to be attending the same party that day in 1980, and all piled into a truck

when, according to the sources, Candice became upset and hit one of the boys. Whatever the

reason for the hit was, this light triggered something dangerous inside of Nick Scher,

and, with the help of his cousin, he beat, raped, and killed the

girl that they had just met. When they were finished, they tied the young girl's body to the

bumper of the truck and dragged her to the river. Nine months later, having officially disappeared

on August 2nd, Candace Rough Surface's body was found in a bay on the Missouri River.

She left behind a son who was just two years old when his mother was brutally taken away from him.

The case would remain unsolved until 1995 when James Stroh's mother-in-law told her employer, a lawyer, that he had confessed

to killing Candace to his ex-wife. Going straight to the police with what she knew, both James

and Nick Schur were arrested and charged with the murder. Both men would end up pleading guilty
