Summary

A special cross-post from our IFG LIVE feed. The UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement was published on Christmas Eve, just a week before the transition period was due to end. So what does the deal mean for the UK – and for its relationship with the EU? What will change for businesses? How will data be shared? Will the EU and the UK continue to work closely on security issues? How was the contentious issue of fishing finally sorted? And what does ‘taking back control’ really mean in practice?   The Institute for Government Brexit team assembles for a special Brexit deal podcast to make sense of what has been agreed and what will happen on January 1. Hear Jill Rutter, Senior Fellow at the Institute for Government, in conversation with Maddy Thimont Jack (Associate Director), James Kane (Associate), Georgina Wright (Associate), and Joe Marshall (Senior Researcher). their sprouts, the full 1246-page agreement landed. Even the IFG's team Brexit failed to respond to Johnson's offer to spend the rest of Christmas

Day reading it, but they made up for it on Boxing Day.

And their first take went up on the IFG website last night to do check it out.

But if you'd rather listen as you walk around the park to work off that Christmas

dinner or to go for a jog rather than read it all, we're here to bring you the audio

version of that Brexit deal in full. I'm delighted to be joined by the crack IFG Brexit team, Maddie Tim and Jack, James Kane,

So on Thursday, both sides described them as satisfied with the deal.

Osovondel Lyon expressed her quiet satisfaction.

Boris Johnson, it has to be said, struck a rather more exultant

1:47.3

tone inhaling his deal. So, Maddie, I'm going to come to you first. What do you think the

1:55.6

highlights of the deal are? I think that's a very good question to start with Jill.

2:02.6

I mean, I think it's just worth saying, you know, when we're talking about this deal,

2:05.9

let's sort of start with what we are actually talking about.
