0:39.2	grammar girl word of the year inflation. It's not the word I would have chosen
0:45.5	my favorites were Slava Ukraine which means glory to Ukraine democracy polarized
0:51.7	and either long-covid or omicron to represent the pandemic but inflation is the
0:57.1	word my followers chose so that's the word I've always known I'm not like most
1:01.8	people. Anyway the specific question that got us to inflation was what word best
1:08.5	describes the zeitgeist of 2022 and we voted in brackets like the baseball
1:14.2	playoffs that was my husband's idea and the brackets were fun but I do
1:18.6	wonder if it would have turned out differently if we'd voted in a different way.
1:22.2	My editor Adam wants to do ranked choice voting next year so in the final
1:28.1	bracket inflation beat out quiet quitting by 6.5% and as an aside quiet
1:34.8	quitting was just chosen as the American dialect society is most likely to
1:39.3	succeed word of 2022. It was a close vote though and it barely beat out
1:44.6	Riz which is short for charisma. Another interesting thing is that LinkedIn
1:50.1	largely drove the results since people voted there in the biggest numbers.
1:54.3	For example quiet quitting actually won the final vote on mastodon and
2:00.3	among my newsletter subscribers but more than 2,500 people voted on LinkedIn
2:05.9	which favored inflation and that huge numbers swamped out the results from
2:10.3	the other platforms. That actually happened throughout the voting as
2:14.3	Corian I talked about earlier and it's probably why we ended up with one final
