Summary

Brian "Tosh" Chontosh says: Defining what Initiative is seems fairly easy. Now, let’s discuss it from a lack of and where we are responsible for others lacking it. When I find myself frustrated with others I like to ask myself what guidance or information or incentive am I not providing to excite initiative from them.

On another vein, I also find myself getting frustrated with others who are acting with hyper or too much initiative. Again, it could be a function of many things, but I like to ask myself the same questions of what am I not doing or providing?

Then, I always put myself in check to make sure I don’t ever take too much or not enough when I am supporting others’ causes.

Ask yourself what your responsibility is in helping others take appropriate initiative
Check in and identify if you are taking too much or not enough when supporting others

0:07.0	What do we mean by Initiative that's recognizing something needs to be done and taking action to do it when nobody else has to tell us what to do? I mean, that's basically the definition of initiative, right? It's, you're a go-getter, you're a action seeker, you're
0:24.8	recognize things and get it done kind of guy or gal, right? That's that person has
0:29.3	initiative. He's forward-leaning, he's in it to win and all of these things. It really revolves around a conversation of initiative. It's a self-starter we can go on and on
0:39.7	We recognize in our lives that people a lot of people don't have initiative or at least I do and it frustrates me and I try to I try to teach him what initiative is like to open up the conversation hey you you know what initiative? It's recognizing things
0:54.6	need to be done. I do it with, we have some house cleaners that come in and help us around
0:59.8	a house because we were super busy, travel a lot and I just want them to come into the house.
1:05.7	I don't want to have to take 20 minutes out of my day to explain, I want you to do this, I want you
1:10.1	to do that, I want you to do this, I want you to do this, I don't want to have to walk around the house and
1:13.8	look for things for my cleaners to do I just want them to show up look around and say
1:19.6	oh wow it'd be cool if I did the windows today hey it looks like the
1:22.3	dishes need to be done, right?
1:24.2	I just want you to do that.
1:25.1	But they don't necessarily work that way
1:27.6	unless you teach them, right?
1:30.2	I try to teach my children initiative.
1:32.4	I try to teach them what it's like to
1:34.0	recognize where they can seek improvement or seek to understand or to learn and
1:39.6	take advantage of those things on their own.
1:42.8	We're to help out with the chores.
1:44.0	It's like, I don't want to tell you to take out the trash.
