0:35.2 | Because we have so many words running through our minds all at one time, it's difficult to separate ourselves from them. |
0:40.2 | We're basically like a fish in water, and we're swimming through countless ideas that pop up in our mind. |
0:46.2 | And just like the fish doesn't recognize the water, sometimes we don't recognize that our thoughts are just thoughts. |

0:54.2 | Although I present myself to the world in a really confident way, there are many times during the day that an intrusive thought will take up space, take the steering wheel, and drive my train of thought absolutely mad. |
1:06.2 | I can be doing so many positive things, and all of a sudden something will pop up in my head and say, I'm not good enough. |
1:12.2 | Or, ugh, I'm such a mess. |
1:15.2 | These types of thoughts can be really harmful, especially if we believe them. |
1:19.2 | They can disrupt your flow of work and peace, leaving you in a negative mindset, and pretty much just derailing you completely. |
1:27.2 | The problem is, the more power you give these thoughts, the more and more they pop back up. |
1:32.2 | So on my personal journey to discover how to rid myself of all these negative thoughts, I stumbled across a video from Emma McAddom. |
1:39.2 | Emma McAddom is a licensed mental health professional, and she provides incredible resources for how to combat negative thoughts. |
1:46.2 | Even if we realize when a negative thought pops up, it still requires a large amount of energy to fight it. |
1:52.2 | Our thoughts are like the glasses through which we see the world, so instead of looking through them, sometimes we have to look at them. |
1:58.2 | Emma McAddom explains that cognitive fusion is believing every thought that passes into your mind. |
2:05.2 | When we experience this, we are fusing ourselves to whatever thought pops up in our head. |
2:09.2 | So if I think today is going to be a bad day, and I believe it without question, then I am practicing cognitive fusion. |
2:16.2 | So the trick is to engage with cognitive deep fusion instead. |
