Hello, welcome back to the Jacobin Show. I'm your host, Jen Pan, as always. Here, of course, with young Kale Brooks here by popular demand.

0:41.0

Kale, as all of you know, is behind the scenes for every show, but we're bringing him on screen more because you asked for it. Kale, hi.

0:50.0

Hey, how's it going? Happy to be here every week. I'm here every week, but now I'm even happier to be here every week.

0:57.0

Yeah, now, now you're like an embodied presence instead of just kind of this spectral ghost floating behind the scenes.

1:07.0

Yeah, this is we have just moved from Hagle to Mark's folks. Right, yeah, right. Yeah, exactly.

1:13.0

Well, on that note, Kale, what's on your mind this week? There's a lot going on.

1:19.0

This is I think probably we can all agree a bad week. This was not a good week. And we're going to talk about that, I think, throughout the show.

1:32.0

And I won't I won't let you introduce the rest of it, but there will be a nice sampling of all the terrible things that have happened this week.

1:43.0

And maybe hopefully some optimism. Yeah, maybe at the point of recording this right now, we don't know if there will be, but there might be.

1:51.0

So we're going to hope that there is and you can hope along with us.

1:56.0

Obviously, the biggest news maybe in a long time is the Supreme Court's decision to overrule or to get rid of Roe v. Wade, the president said almost 50 years ago that allowed some form of abortion to be legal.

2:13.0

So at least not be criminally punished in this country. And obviously for many of you out there, you probably already are very much aware that that actual status has not been equal.

2:26.0

It's been uneven across the country for a long time and is only going to become far more unequal now as something probably like more than half of the country, more than half of the states in the country are basically states where you cannot get an abortion.

2:47.0

So this is one of the things that has been brought up in the context of this. There's many conversations, there's many good conversations you should listen to.

2:57.0

Ben Burr just did an interview not too long ago with Lily and secure Chia.

3:02.0

It's a good interview. I think she lays out a lot of the kind of the socialist case or how to deal with this situation and what we need to do about it.

3:10.0

But one thing I think that has come up in the context of this is the question of Republican and right-wing overstep.

3:17.0

Are they has the right-wing actually gone too far, which obviously yes, but in so far as it's horrific for ordinary people's lives.

3:30.0

This is going to be massively damaging and painful and destructive. And that's among a long list of things that the right has done for the entire history of the right.

3:42.0

But the question of right-wing overreach right now has to do with kind of within the cultural zeitgeist of America, of what is acceptable politics, is this an overreach?

3:55.0

And therefore, if it's an overreach, will there be some kind of repercussions or rebound? I think it's what's implied when people say overreach.
