Growing up in Alabama, Jaseka Nicole was part of one of the only biracial families that she knew of.

She'd walked down the street with her parents, with her white mom and her black dad, and people would stare.

They'd stare so much that even now when people stare too long at her in public,

which when you're an

actress on shows like scandal and fringe that can happen for any number of reasons, even so,

when people stare, she so worries that it's because someone maybe hasn't seen someone who

looks like her before.

And that makes you feel like you don't belong.

It makes you feel unwelcome.
