I am the Mercky Stokes Professor of the Social Sciences

and Professor of Economics at Brown University and I am John Paulson Senior

Fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

John teaches the humanities at Columbia University and writes a column regularly for the New York Times.

And we talk about all manner of things here, a lot about race and American politics, which is our subject today, John.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, we promised two weeks ago

when we had our bi-weekly conversation, the subject of Tana Hasey

Colts's book, The Message, came up. The book has gotten a lot of attention. Indeed, I think it's a firestorm of reaction to his publication.

And John had not, he had had an opportunity to read the book I had done and had a lot of positive things to say about

the quality of the writing and I thought the subtle penetrating critical intelligence that was on display in the book, all of the book,

including its very controversial chapter on Palestine.

John hadn't had a chance to read the book yet.
