Okay, this is part two of our episode on Joyce McKinney, who, if you recall, kidnapped her Mormon missionary ex-boyfriend, took him to a cottage in Devon, spent three days assaulting him, and insisted that it was all consensual because they were in love.

At this point in our story, Kirk Anderson has managed to escape Joyce's clutches by

pretending that he was going to marry her to get her to drive him into London, and she last

saw him leaving on a train to head back to Surrey.

But as soon as he got back, Kirk went to the police and told them everything about his kidnapping.

Jackson Shaw, the pilot, said that he was back in the U.S. during all of this at his apartment

in Long Beach when the police called him and said the homicide department wanted him to come

down to the station and talk to them. And he was pretty freaked out by that, but he went down

and he told them the whole story,

everything he knew about Joyce. They actually had him give them his story twice to make sure

that both stories matched. And they did. So police in the UK set up a sting operation to

arrest Joyce and Keith. They left a message for her that said, quote, it's been crazy, but I think I

finally got them off my back now. I still love you, Joy. Call me any time at the number above.

So she called the number and she said she wanted to speak to Kirk and they set up a meeting for

two o'clock the next day. On September 19th,

1977, Joyce and Keith set off to the meeting. Joyce said she was so excited. She just kept

singing, I'm getting married in the morning. But on the way, they were stopped by police. She said

they nearly ran her off the road and they were both arrested for false imprisonment and kidnapping.

And she's shocked.
