I'm Gianna Jalosi with your Fox True Crime Minute. The man accused of killing four

University of Idaho students in late 2022 is asking a judge to

throw out evidence collected against him. Police apparently used DNA left at the crime scene on a knife

sheath to ultimately help a genealogy expert produce a family tree, which led to Brian

Koberger being identified as their suspect. It's a process called investigative genetic genealogy, and it

relies on comparing a suspect's DNA profile to millions of other people's profiles, which they

voluntarily uploaded to a company to learn about their ancestry. But at hearings last week,

it was learned that the FBI accessed four databases, and in searching two of them, violated terms

of service agreements going against

DOJ guidelines.

Coberger's defense team also contends that the search warrants in the case were tainted by

police misconduct.

Coburgers facing four charges of first-degree murder and felony burglary in the stabbing

deaths of the four University of Idaho students.

Trial is set to begin in August.
