0:40.4	Lee represents the 50th District in the Virginia House of Delegates and he is running to be the next governor of Virginia.
0:47.0	Lee, welcome to Amped Up.
0:49.0	Thank you so much for having me, Ryan.
0:51.0	Yeah, since this is your first time on the program, can you just give, share a little bit
0:56.2	about your backstory and why you were running to be the next governor of Virginia?
1:01.0	Yeah, so, you know, I don't come from a normal background for a politician.
1:05.3	I'm not a lawyer. I'm not wealthy. I'm a Marine Corps veteran and an electronics
1:10.9	repairman and I got involved in politics because I got hurt at work in the summer of 2015.
1:15.6	And I had to deal with the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission and that experience of dealing with them was just so abysmal that I started going around to people that worked in
1:26.3	and around Virginia politics and asking them what they were going to do about workers
1:29.2	com. Nobody had an answer and so it was this very Mr Smith goes to Washington kind of thing where I was like all right well, you know if nobody's going to fix this I guess I'm going to go ahead and you know put my name out there and try and I took on a fight that everyone said was impossible
1:45.3	I took out a member of Republican Party leadership in a district that was gerrymandered
1:49.7	specifically for him and I was able to able to turn what was a solidly conservative
1:55.2	district into now a bastion of progressive politics.
1:59.4	And the way I was able to do that
2:00.9	was by building a multi-racial working class coalition of people who had never
2:06.0	voted in a general assembly election before and getting them out to the polls by
