Hi, Eric Rivenis here. This week we revisit an interview that came out

0:08.0

wow, seven years ago this June. Steve Hodell, as many of you may recall,

0:15.0

chatted with me for quite a while about his late father, George Hodell,

0:21.0

who he believes was the black Dahlia killer. When this was originally

0:27.0

released, it easily became the most popular interview I had conducted

0:32.0

up to that point from a download perspective. Lots and lots of listens, shares,

0:39.0

radio shows were mentioning the interview to their audiences. It definitely

0:44.0

raised the profile of the podcast. Feedback and criticism came rolling in

0:50.0

immediately afterwards. Many listeners loved Steve's delivery style, his passion

0:56.0

for the case came through. They said, it's such a unique situation, right,

1:01.0

for a son to accuse his own father of murder. It's a twist that you don't

1:06.0

normally encounter in true crime. And many thought that he presented a very strong

1:12.0

case that George Hodell murdered Elizabeth Short. Others weren't so

1:18.0

complimentary. When listener said the author lacked detached objectivity,

1:24.0

another wrote that he seemed like he was trying to force puzzle pieces together.

1:29.0

Many listeners were offended, believing that he didn't properly defend his

1:36.0

sister, who had suffered, of course, terrible abuse and trauma at the hands of

1:41.0

their father. So this was just a taste of what came back to me after this

1:45.0

interview first came out. And as I'm taking a break from the show this week,

1:49.0

I thought it would be interesting to look back on it. So for me,

1:53.0

listening back to the interview, and for the first time I think since I've

1:57.0

released it, I found some of his arguments extremely intriguing, especially
