Pre-diabetes is way more common than people think.  Joseph Krauft MD, authored the book, Diabetes Epidemic & You, which is a great book to demonstrate the importance of testing fasting insulin levels (and post-eating too) compared to a glucose tolerance test. Assessing insulin in the blood will pick up early signs of pre-diabetes and insulin resistance BEFORE testing blood glucose levels. However, doctors rarely test insulin levels.
