Summary

LABOR DAY SALE - ALL COURSES B1G150% OFF The all encompassing nature of motherhood makes it difficult for many women to stay connected to their identity outside of that role. But when we lose touch with ourselves and our individual desires, we disconnect from an important source of internal strength, one that can sustain us throughout even the most difficult periods of motherhood. In this NEW episode of Moving Thru Momlife, Dr. Finlayson-Fife joins host Lindsey Taylor to discuss how women can stay connected to their bodies, desires, and sexuality throughout every age and stage of motherhood and how maintaining this important connection will provide them with a much-needed source of strength.  If you enjoyed this episode, you would LOVE Dr. Finlayson-Fife's Art of Desire Retreat -- we still have a few tickets left! To give you an idea why, I wanted to share with you how I first met Lindsay Taylor,

0:17.0

today's podcast host.

0:18.0

So back in early 2010, I found myself in a kind of dark place. I had three young children all under the age of five.

0:26.2

None of them were yet in school and my family had just moved across the country from Austin, Texas to Lehigh, Utah, and I was living in a dark and mouse-infested basement.

I was feeling lonely, overwhelmed, and just really missing the life that I had built here in Texas,

0:41.9

and being in the cold Utah winter in a dark basement I could

0:45.2

feel myself falling into a bit of a depressive period. So one day I decided to sign up

0:51.0

for the local gym which was offering two free hours of child care every single day.

0:55.5

I had no intention of working out. I signed up for the gym solely for the child care so that I could have a few minutes to myself each day to read, shower, whatever, but zero intention of actually working out.

About two months into my membership, I walked past a group fitness room and I heard some good music coming out, so I decided to just pop my head in and see what was going on. I walk in and it's a dance class.

1:18.0

Okay, I am not a dancer. I have no business being in a dance class and so I was very tempted to turn around and

1:24.3

walk right back out but the moment I walked into that class I could feel the enthusiasm I could

1:30.0

see the smiles and I thought okay I may as well just stay and see what this is all about and the next 50 minutes were incredible because for those 50 minutes I was not thinking about the mice in my basement. I was not feeling overwhelmed.

1:44.0

For 50 minutes I was focused solely on just not looking like an idiot in front of all those people in that class and

1:49.6

it was such a welcome relief to my mind and it was so crazy because I walked out of that class I took about 10 steps and I felt the

1:57.5

weight of everything settle right back on my shoulders and I just thought I have got to get back to that class. So that class that I just

2:04.8

happened to pop into was a class that Lindsay was teaching. And during the next five years her

2:09.5

classroom became a sanctuary to me. During those intensive years of young motherhood, it was the perfect

2:14.5

place for me to go and to just have fun, to relax and move my body and to not be so worried

2:21.0

about all that was going on in the world, in my life, in my family.

2:24.8

I loved those classes.
