Hello listeners, I'm your host Amara and this is Black Girl Gone, a true crime podcast. If you're On this episode of Black Girl Gone, I tell the story of Phyllis Malone. a 31-year-old woman who was murdered in September 2008 in Memphis, Tennessee.

In the early morning hours of September 9th, 2008, police were called to a gas station

where they found a body of a woman who had been shot to death inside her car.

When police find her wallet they identify the victim as Phyllis Malone.

But there was also a three-page letter where Phyllis confesses to someone named Chancy that she was pregnant with his baby.

The letter only had a first name, but police needed to find out if this letter and the person connected to it had anything to do with this brutal murder.

It didn't take them long to discover that their prime suspect was one of their own.

This is Phyllis's story.

Phyllis Malone was born on December 19th, 1976 in Memphis, Tennessee, where she grew up in a large

close-knit family of eight children.

Phyllis's siblings said that they had a wonderful childhood, one filled with a lot of love and laughter.

She and her family lived in an area of Memphis called Soulsville, a very historic area
