0:00.0 | What is up? Welcome back to build. And today we are going to talk about all things self-care. |
0:07.4 | So I wanted to talk about this topic because it is something that I do not speak too much. And I want to explain why I don't speak to it much. And I also want to speak to it. |
0:16.1 | So the reason I don't speak about self-care much is because I had a pretty poor experience in my past with people who really over-indexed on self-care. |
0:27.2 | And what I mean is they really over-index the importance of how routine and self-discipline and doing all these things on a day-to-day basis and taking four or five hours |
0:38.4 | every day to take care of yourself would lead to success so much so that it created a lot of anxiety |
0:44.2 | for me like I had more anxiety around the thought of not keeping up with my self-care than the |
0:50.8 | self-care took away right and so like the whole point of taking care of ourselves is that we want to feel good, |

1:17.4 | believed about it. And where I've kind of fallen is that I really believe that true self-care |
1:23.2 | is self-discipline. And I get it because a lot of times when people think about self-care, |
1:28.7 | they think about bubble baths, they think about face masks, they think about eating your favorite junk food, |
1:33.6 | they think about tropical vacations, right? I beg to differ. I think that self-care is not the spa day |
1:40.1 | that you want. I think it is the 5 a.m. workout that you really need, right? Because if you're |
1:45.7 | running a company, or even if you're building one from scratch, or even if you're just working |
1:50.4 | within one, the type of self-care you need is the type that builds self-trust and self-respect. |
1:58.4 | What you need is discipline. Okay. Self-discipline is self-care in action because skipping the |
2:06.1 | hard stuff today costs us trust and respect for ourselves tomorrow. And that is really my philosophy |
2:14.3 | around self-care. It's just that we want to do things that make us like and |
