Today I express my thoughts and things I have learned from running my businesses by comparing it to running a sports team! I feel that no one has expressed it the way I explain in today’s podcast, so hopefully you gain something from it!

In sports, there are four main components of determining the value of a team. These four categories are ownership, management, players, fans.

Ownership is extremely important, and it drive the vision of the team or company, and directly affects how the people are treated. For example, I’ve seen teams with cheap owners that don’t pay players well, so the players don’t feel as valued. This is the same as a cheap company owner, as if employees don’t feel valued and have opportunity in the company, they are going to constantly wonder about other companies that have more to offer them.

Management is crucial to the success of the team and company. Finding the right managers and personal is important as they attract the best players and employees.

Your employees are akin to players on a sports team. They are responsible for most interactions and fulfilling order of the company. As an owner, you want only the best employees at your company. In the long run, the better business will always win.

And for the last level, sports fans are more obvious. Fans buy tickets, buy merchandise, and more. As a team makes more money, the team is able to reinvest the money in themselves. This begins a cycle of success. In business, the fans are your customers. As customers are loyal and you increase the amount of customers, the company can start the cycle.

For a lot of owners, their goals are each a little different. For some, its all about the money, for some it’s about winning, and sometimes it’s in the middle. For me, it’s all about winning. If I can create awesome content and impact people, I’m happy!
