Lisa, welcome to the podcast. You know, I want to start off with something pretty mind-blowing that I learned from you. So globally, we have about 50, 55 million people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. But the crazy part is, is that that's set to triple by

0:15.6

think 2050 is what I learned from you. But even crazier than that is that only

0:20.9

three to five percent of all diagnoses are driven by our genetics.

0:28.0

So that begs the question for myself and our audience,

0:32.0

what the heck is happening for the other 95 to 97% of people who unfortunately

0:39.5

are ending up with this super scary disease.

0:42.9

It is super scary.

0:43.9

So you're right, 55 million people worldwide

0:46.1

have Alzheimer's disease.

0:47.3

That number will triple by the year 2050.

0:49.9

And it seems to be a cascade of different factors that affect it.

1:10.0

Let's unpack those. Let's start off with the first one, which I actually want to kind of go out of order.

1:15.7

Yeah. So let's start off with the first one and talk about sleep.

1:19.7

Mm. Everybody sleeps or you would hope so, but what is going on in our modern day society that

1:25.8

we're not sleeping good enough that's impacting our brain?

1:30.9

Well we have to understand first of all the the pathophysiology of

1:34.8

Alzheimer's disease so we know in these neurodegenerative diseases okay

1:40.2

neurodegenerative so they build up over time.

1:44.2

More often than not, you're getting diagnosed

1:46.3

with your first symptom of Alzheimer's disease
