Night has fallen on the desert, another cold, cold winter night.

Cold all over America this week, I saw New Orleans got more than a foot of snow.

A foot of snow in New Orleans.

And all the years I lived down there,

we only ever got a scraggly ass, mushy inch or so,

one time, exactly one time.

And I remember we scooped up as much as we could,

as fast as we could do it.

It was mostly grass and dirt.

To make a little snowman about four inches tall, sort of a snow gnome.

But this week I saw a video of dogs playing in the snow while people were laughing and throwing snowballs on Bourbon Street.

Not the kind of snowballs you get in summertime with the flavored syrup made of crushed ice.

But the winter kind,

most people never, ever see,

unless they leave Southern Louisiana.

Actual snow, nice to see,

nice to see after what that street and that town went through

just a few weeks ago when the year was still very new.

Well, there really is a time for everything.

As hard as that can be when the hard times come to you, come for you, come to your people.
