Night has fallen on the desert, a winter storm cut loose from the mountains.

The cold wind whipping around the creosote, rain dripping down through the swamp cooler vent.

Twenty and twenty-five came in like a lion and it's the year of the snake.

We've got both out here in the Mojave Wilderness.

We've got mountain lions or cougars.

And snakes too.

Although it's still a bit early to see our reptile friends up here at 4,000 feet elevation.

They'll be out soon enough.

They're already out where it's warmer.

They're probably out by the thousands down by the heel of river, the Salt River Valley.

This rain coming down, rain here, and snow up high in the mountains and the usual flooded highways and overflowing desert streams and rubbish all over the roads where the streams come across.

Well, that just might be enough

To make the flowers come up

Make the little seeds that feed the various rodents

That feed the snakes

All part of the system
