The public discussion over artificial intelligence is ramping up.

Oprah Winfrey recently hosted a prime time special, including key industry players and others.

So what were the hits and misses in this discussion about a technology with huge potential upside and some

lingering serious concerns.

Cato's Jennifer Huddleston explains.

I always get a little nervous when journalists want to do some sort of deep dive into

subject matter that I understand a lot.

Thankfully, I don't understand a ton about generative AI and some of the

upsides and downsides of its expansion.

So Oprah, who I trust more than most to handle this with some delicacy and some forethought,

how was that issue presented and how did she do in in characterizing the issue?

It's interesting and exciting that we're seeing a prime time TV special with Oprah who as you mentioned is a household name that many people respect on AI.

And this special really did focus more heavily on generative AI than AI in general.

Because AI is much more than just the generative AI chat gp-GPT products products that become really popular over the last year or two.

We saw a lot of skepticism from Oprah, which is probably also true for the audience of this show. A lot of concerns expressed about

things like the potential use of AI for deep fakes. Skepticism about around

did this technology need to be regulated, particularly in her

conversation with Sam Altman.

But we also did see some push of optimism and some recognition that AI is here and it's something

that we'll need to adjust to, kind of that that genie is out of the bottle, and some
