Summary

When we talk about the fruit of the Spirit, love and joy seem like they’re in a higher league than patience. We think, “everybody gets impatient!” But in James 5, it says impatience and grumbling is worthy of judgment. You may say, “Why?” But what do you think murder is? It’s just grumbles that were planted and watered and fertilized. Impatience is at the root of things. Let’s look at 1) the danger of impatience 2) what patience is, 3) what patience is not, 4) the counterfeit of patience, and 5) how you develop a patient heart. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 25, 1990. Series: Fruit of the Spirit. Scripture: James 5:7-16. 1:24.8	another lesson on patience if I was going to write one for New Yorkers.
1:29.8	Let's read James Chapter 5 verses 7 to 16, goes like this,
1:35.0	be patient then, brothers, until the Lord's coming.
1:38.0	See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop
1:42.0	and how patient he is for the Ottoman spring rains.
1:46.0	You too be patient and stand firm because the Lord's coming is near.
1:50.0	Don't grumble against each other brothers or you will be judged. The judge is
1:56.7	standing at the door. Brothers as an example of patience in the face of suffering
2:01.5	take the prophets who spoke in the name of the
2:03.7	Lord, as you know we considered blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of
2:08.1	Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
