Hello, this is Emma Ganon, and thank you for listening to this podcast. I just wanted to let you know that my new book, The Success Myth, Letting Go of Having It All, is out on May the 18th.

0:10.0

I think it's my best book yet, so I'm excited for it to come out. And the book unpicks the eight success myths from happiness, to money, to productivity, to celebrity, to the idea of finally arriving, and how chasing a version of success that doesn't align with your values can really take you off track.

0:27.0

And this book is about getting back to yourself, breaking free, finding a new way forward.

0:32.0

And it's available on May the 18th. If you love this podcast, you'll love the book, and it's available soon from all good bookshops.

Have to tell you on the podcast, because I just said it to you off the mics that it's so brilliant. It's called Happy Not Perfect.

1:20.0

Honestly, a book I could have done with about five years ago when I was giving myself such a hard time in my own head in my twenties.

1:26.0

And I think it's going to help a lot of people. So huge congrats.

1:29.0

Gosh, thank you so much. I've never been so nervous about anything ever coming out, and I think it's because it's the most personal thing I've ever done.

1:39.0

And so it feels like it feels like I'm basically walking around naked for the rest of time with this book.

1:47.0

Well, it's such a good sign that you feel like that. And I know that feeling of vulnerability before something comes out, but it's a really good sign trust me, because we get to, you know, you're peeling back the layers.

1:57.0

You do it on your podcast on your Instagram and everywhere else, but not to this extent, I felt like you'd gone there even more in this book. And I'm really glad you did.

2:06.0

But I wanted to start off with mentioning the forward, because it's by Dr James R. Doty, who I know you really respect, and he's amazing.

2:15.0

But he sort of says in the intro that from the outside looking in, you do look like someone who has quote unquote made it.

2:22.0

You have a fabulous life. You've done amazing things. You've been on stage at Harvard conferences. You've flown around the world. You've had millions of people look at you on Snapchat, like to a younger person, maybe as well.

2:33.0

You're sort of the epitome of happy, successful person. But what he's saying is, you know, strap yourself in for this book, because you're going to say, it's not always like that. Trust me. Could you give us an example of a time in your life where it just wasn't matching up.

2:49.0

Oh, my God. Absolutely. And also every single day. And I think that we have created a world, which focuses so much on projection of the personal brand, you know, whether you're, you know, despite what your job is, even my mom thinks about her Instagram feed, you know, whether the nature photograph matched with the other nature photograph, whatever she's, you know, posting.

3:13.0

So it's, you know, just even just from last week, I think that I have these moments. And at least I now have the tools to realize that it's okay to have so much self doubt.

3:29.0

And when we're in these uncertain moments, I guess, you know, I'm having loads of questions right now in terms of, you know, I, you know, I built this app and I believe you, but what's next for me.
