I'm just one of those people who gets depressed during holiday season at the joy that everybody else has experienced me.

Everybody is so joyful. What's there to be so fucking happy about? You made the whole thing up. This is all an artifice. It's a ruse.

Life really sucks and then you die. I will say this for the record.

I have been playing a certain kind of role in American public life as the black guy

who stands against the stuff that a lot of the black advocate intellectual political class are

for. And I'm growing weary of playing that role. I mean, I want kids not to be stuck in a ghetto

of Afro studies and thinking that the only thing that they can read,

think or do is race-oriented.

On the other hand, I think that I get meaning in my life from seeing myself as a descendant

of slaves.

The African-American saga, a struggle for dignity, equality, fool, inclusion within society.

I see myself as a part of it. Am I silly for thinking that? Am I a fool?

A dup? The people who advocate racelessness would appear to be saying so. And I don't think that

that's me. I find it ironic in the extreme that people I could name names, but I don't want this to be

a lot of things you can argue about or against. Why is race taking up so much space in your head?

You don't want to be black? Stop being black. Let's move on to the next thing. But no,

there's book after book, after speech, after article, after interview, announcing

to the world that you don't want to be black. What's that about? I mean, because after all,

nobody would care what you thought about blackness if you weren't black. A white guy, I invite

you white guys. Go out there and try to make a living being against race and see how many people
