Hey there, I'm Chelsea Davis, your host this week. I'm a film and literary critic who writes about horror,

and I'm your audio producer here at Sudapod.

Today's story is very much an oldy but a goody.

Chickamauga was first published in 1889 in the San Francisco Examiner.

Its author, Ambrose Beers, was an American journalist, critic, short story writer, and merciless

wit.

His fiction often dealt in the improbable cruelt in the improbable cruelt of fate, whether in the realm of the supernatural or that of the battlefield, and sometimes both, as in his best-known tale, an occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.

Bierce is one of the only major authors who wrote about the American Civil War after actually fighting on its front lines himself.

He survived that conflict only to die in a different one.

Well at least we think that's the case. After traveling New Mexico in 1914 to join Pancho Villa's revolutionary army, Bierce disappeared without a trace.
