0:00.0 | Hey everyone. Welcome back to the Power Hour podcast. I hope that you are all safe and well. |
0:07.4 | So this week I'm going to be answering some of my most frequently asked questions. |
0:11.5 | Over the last year, I have been delivering talks and virtual events and the Q&A section at the end, |
0:18.0 | whether I'm speaking to a big organisation, whether I'm speaking to leaders |
0:22.4 | in the team or more junior members, from careers events to students, I'm finding that I'm being |
0:28.3 | asked the same questions again and again and again. So I thought that it would be useful for me to |
0:33.3 | share some of those questions and answers with you all as well. So the first question is, |
0:39.1 | I often start things, but I find it difficult to stick with them and to complete things and to |
0:45.0 | see things through to the end. So this is something that comes up a lot. Often people will say that. |
0:49.8 | They say, you know what, starting something new, great, but actually life happens, things change. |

1:11.2 | You like the match and then you have maybe a few seconds before the match blows out. |
1:15.7 | So that initial spark, that motivation, just acknowledging that and not expecting it to |
1:21.6 | stay, it's almost a bit of a contradiction or an oxymoron to say sustain motivation, |
1:27.1 | because I don't believe you can. |
1:28.5 | I think it's just an initial spark. So after that first bit, after the match is blown out, |
1:33.8 | then I actually think you need something else to keep you going, whether that's structure, |
1:38.0 | whether that's discipline, whether that's accountability, but actually you don't need |
1:41.4 | motivation to be able to complete things. You only need motivation to start. |
