Hello and thank you for downloading the Scotland Outdoors podcast.

I'm Mark Stephen. He's you and Macalrith.

And this week the podcast is coming from the biggest agricultural event in Scotland,

the Royal Highland Show at Ingolston just outside Edinburgh.

Yeah, it attracts people from not only all over the country, but all over the world.

It truly is an international event.

Massive numbers here this year.

Incredible sights and sound and really blessed the great weather.

The thing is that there are Scottish breeds like, for example, Highland Cows or Aberdeen Angus,

that have literally gone around the world.

They've gone to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, North America, you name it.

And people come back here to see the birthplace of these beasts, to see the very best examples that they possibly can.

Another animal that's particular to Scotland is the Clydesdale horse, and I would say one of the highlights of this year's show, the 2019 event, was something called the celebration of the Clydesdale horse and I would say one of the highlights of this year's show the 2019 event was something called the celebration of the Clydesdales.

Leading our parade of course you have to start with your stock, your blood stock and the stallion from Laura Henry goes to show the days when the agricultural societies would hire some of the top stallions to travel their areas

and go around and breed again with the working mares

to produce top quality stock.
