Dan is an award winning wine writer, magazine editor and restaurateur

He is the Co founder of Noble Rot named for the fungus that shrivels and sweeten grapes which began life as a cult food, wine and popular culture magazine. This season of Desert Island Dishes is brought to you in partnership with Lloyd's Bank and

0:05.3

their smart start bank account for 11 to 15 year olds. When I was growing up, my parents would

0:11.8

always tell us that money didn't grow on trees and if you look after the pennies, the pounds will

0:17.5

look after themselves. But to be honest, I never really understood what these old

0:22.7

sayings meant or what they were trying to teach me. And I think like with lots of life skills,

0:29.0

these things are just so much easier to learn from a young age. And this is definitely something

0:34.2

I think about now with my own children. And I can see it in my niece

0:38.0

because since she got her Lloyd's Bank Smart Start account, she has become somewhat of a

0:44.1

saving superstar. She's already learning how to manage her money and learning these habits

0:50.6

which are going to make her adult life so much easier. She's also so excited about

0:55.6

using it too, which is brilliant. They get their own card, they get a savings account and a

1:01.6

spending account. It's just such a good idea and something that you can do as a parent that's

1:07.0

going to help them flourish in the future. It's so clever. It's so good for their confidence.

1:12.8

And it's just something that I wish genuinely had been around when I was that age. I think as parents,

1:18.4

we all know we have a lot of plates in the air. And even with the best intentions, we just don't

1:24.8

have the time to teach our children everything that we'd like to. And sometimes

1:29.8

that means important conversations get rushed or brushed over. So I really am excited to be

1:36.1

working with Lloyds on this campaign because it's all focused on building financial confidence

1:41.0

in children. To be eligible, parents and guardians need to have an existing

1:46.1

club Lloyd's current account and be registered for internet banking. To find out more, head to

1:51.8

Lloyd'sbank.com forward slash smart start. Thank you very much to Lloyd's Bank.
