Summary

Shivi has been dubbed by The Guardian as the “Caribbean Food Supremo”, and it has been said she is the "Queen of Contemporary Caribbean Cooking". She is a food writer, cookbook author, TV chef and presenter. She was born in Trinidad but was brought up between there, New York, the English countryside and London. This diverse upbringing has really influenced her style of cooking. She says her culinary mission is to twist classic Caribbean dishes and make them into her own vibrant, fresh and easy to make recipes.

She’s had a fascinating career - Starting out as singer / songwriter – training as a lawyer before going on Masterchef and turning her dream of working in food into a reality. She’s now written three cookbooks, and can regularly be found cooking on TV. She is a regular guest on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen and has previously hosted the show as well as a regular on ITV’s This Morning.

She has just released her third cookbook, Cook Clever.

This season of Desert Island Dishes is brought to you in partnership with Lloyd's Bank and their smart start bank account for 11 to 15 year olds.

When I was growing up, my parents would always tell us that money didn't grow on trees and if you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves.

0:17.3

But to be honest, I never really understood what these old sayings meant or what they

0:23.7

were trying to teach me. And I think like with lots of life skills, these things are just so much

0:28.9

easier to learn from a young age. And this is definitely something I think about now with my own

0:34.0

children. And I can see it in my niece because since she got her Lloyd's Bank's

0:38.2

smart start account, she has become somewhat of a saving superstar. She's already learning

0:44.8

how to manage her money and learning these habits which are going to make her adult life so

0:50.5

much easier. She's also so excited about using it too, which is brilliant. They get their own

0:56.6

card, they get a savings account and a spending account. It's just such a good idea and something

1:03.0

that you can do as a parent that's going to help them flourish in the future. It's so clever.

1:07.6

It's so good for their confidence. And it's just something that I wish genuinely

1:11.5

had been around when I was that age. I think as parents, we all know we have a lot of plates in the

1:17.4

air. And even with the best intentions, we just don't have the time to teach our children

1:23.1

everything that we'd like to. And sometimes that means important conversations get rushed or

1:29.4

brushed over. So I really am excited to be working with Lloyds on this campaign because it's all

1:35.5

focused on building financial confidence in children. To be eligible, parents and guardians

1:41.4

need to have an existing club Lloyd's current account and be registered for

1:45.5

internet banking. To find out more, head to loidsbank.com forward slash smart start. Thank you very much to

Lloyd's Bank. Hi, how are you all? I hope you're all very well and had a brilliant long weekend filled with plenty of chocolate.

2:04.3

We've got a lovely episode for you today with the brilliant shivie where you're going to learn about the art of liming,

2:10.4

which some of you, of course, will already know about, but it was new to me and something I am now all in favour of making a big part of my life.
