Summary

This week, Emma is joined by Annie to talk about her friendship with Katie, one that was born out of tragic circumstances and one that others have struggled to accept.

Katie had been engaged to Annie's brother and a cherished member of their family since she'd first arrived on the scene at 15, but some years later, they decided to take a break from their relationship. When Pete was tragically killed in a road traffic collision, Annie and Katie continued to be an active presence in each other's lives as they both navigated grief, loss, new relationships and parenthood.

In this episode, we hear about how Annie and Katie's friendship has sustained them through life's ups and downs, and why the last conversation Annie ever had with Pete would prove to be so important to the friendship they would go on to build.

1:00.0	Hi, Emma. I have some close friends. I have a really good friend Katie. Our friendship
1:07.7	originally came. She was my brother's girlfriend, fiance. I've known her now for nearly 25 years. Long time and she's still
1:20.2	my best friend and I think a lot of people, our friendship evolved over the years and
1:27.0	my brother sadly passed in 2006 and I think a lot of people have found our friendship a bit odd that we've continued on and actually we definitely became closer, even closer after that point.

1:46.6	Katie has quite rightly now gone on, she's married, she's got three gorgeous funny clever girls who are just adore and I think people find it a bit
1:59.1	odd sometimes that we've sort of carried on and it's almost being implied at times am I kind of
2:06.8	betraying Pete my brother. Okay yeah that's that's really complicated isn't't it? Because like you said, there's a sort of, it makes sense to you, it seems, it makes perfect sense to you. This is, this is a 25 year friendship that has deep and evolved lasted but it doesn't necessarily make sense instantly to some others.
2:29.0	No. There's been at points. My family love Katie and not as close as I am and I think my parents, my dad's passed just in November just gone and I think both my mom and dad they love Katie I think they still sort of
2:46.8	struggle a little bit and at times over the years they've asked questions and then become quite emotional in kind of hearing the answers.
2:56.6	And I guess maybe seeing her move on as she should do.
