The monster of Florence, or Imostro Diafrenze, in Italian, is a name that evokes pure dread

in the hearts of those who know of the unidentified serial killer, who casts a shadow of terror

across the picturesque countryside of Florence for almost 20 years.

The monster preyed upon young couples in their cars, brutally murdering them, and often

mutilating the bodies of his female victims.

The vicious nature of these crimes, coupled with the failure of authorities to apprehend

the killer, has left an indelible stain on the breathtaking region of Tuscany.

In the dead of night, on August 21, 1968, a nightmare began when Antonio L'Obiaco,

and Barbara Loci, were found slain in their car in the small town of Signeur.

Loci's six-year-old son, who had been asleep in the backseat, was the sole witness to

the gruesome murder.

The boy, forever scarred by the horrifying events, could not provide any useful information

to the police.

The monster's thirst for blood was far from quenched.
