Summary

Do we want God more than we want anything else? Today, Emma Dotter walks us through Psalm 63 where David sees his need for God, his dependence on Him and the provision He provides. From the moment David’s day begins, he thirsts for God as if he is in a desert with no water. When we sense that longing for something more, may we be reminded that Jesus Christ is the only one who can satisfy our souls. May we follow David’s example with praise as the mechanism for a heart of contentment in Christ.

 Additional Scripture Referenced:

Thanks for joining. Today, we're reading Psalm 63, taking a look at David's dependence on God.

Last fall, I went on a road trip to New England with a group of friends, and on this trip, we planned to take a hike in New Hampshire. I think when we went, it was around October,

0:26.4

November, so it was definitely starting to get pretty chilly in that area of the country.

0:31.1

And this hike was a long one. I think round trip, it was going to be about eight or nine miles,

0:36.8

and the friend who was leading us, he warned us, saying it'd be pretty cold at the top in the alpine zone. Now, I'll be honest. I didn't know what an alpine zone was. I just thought, oh yeah, the top of the mountain will be colder, but I had no clue how extreme the conditions would be. It's essentially the highest point or area on the mountain,

0:56.3

and when in the alpine zone, you're above the tree line, so it's incredibly cold and icy,

1:01.6

and there aren't any more trees to block the wind. And I say all of this to show you that because we

1:07.0

were going up so high, it was definitely a strenuous hike. Yet for whatever reason,

1:12.6

that hadn't quite set in for me, and so I just brought one average-sized water bottle.

1:19.0

And not even an hour into the hike, I realized I was not going to have enough water. I realized

1:26.1

simply put my need for water in the most practical of ways.

1:29.7

And now, the good news is one of the guys had brought extra water knowing people probably

1:33.3

wouldn't have had enough, and he was prepared and everything was fine.

1:36.4

But in that moment, before we knew he had this extra water, several of us were realizing the

1:42.3

hike we were embarking on was a huge journey we were not prepared for and we were in need.

1:47.2

I mean, one girl even started resorting to drinking water straight out of the stream without a filter or boiling it or anything, which was crazy.

1:57.7

But have you ever been there?

1:59.0

Have you ever found yourself in a challenging spot

2:02.2

and you realize you need help? Maybe your car broke down, you're stranded on the side of the road,

2:08.1

you realize you need help. And the good news for us was that there were people who could help us,

2:12.7

they could provide us with water. But what if no one had been there? What if no one had extra water?
