Summary

In the early morning hours of November 8th, 1992, 19-year-old nursing student Mischelle Lawless was found dead, just outside Benton, Missouri, on the side of Interstate 70. Investigators claimed the evidence suggested Mischelle had fought for her life, ran from her attacker and was pursued and caught before being returned to her car where she was shot three times in the back of the head. After questioning Mischelle’s boyfriend and friends, the case went cold until April 7th of 1993, when 17 year old Josh Kezer was arrested and charged with the murder of Mischelle Lawless. Kezer’s arrest was based on information provided to police by two jailhouse informants, and supporting testimony of a witness who claimed to see Mischelle and Josh arguing at a party the night of her murder, as well as another witness who placed Kezer at the scene of the crime. Despite the lack of physical evidence and the questionable credibility of the witnesses and informants, Josh Kezer was found guilty of second degree murder and he was sentenced to 60 years in prison. However, sixteen years later Josh Kezer was exonerated after witnesses came forward claiming he had not been at the party, and it was discovered that the eyewitness placing Kezer at the scene had changed his account of that evening multiple times. Kezer sued for wrongful conviction, being awarded four million dollars, ten thousand of which he donated to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, to be used to find the real killer of Mischelle Lawless.

So today we're jumping into part two of the Michelle Lawless case, but I know you have

0:51.4

something you want to say really quickly. You said 10 seconds. 10 seconds. If you guys

0:54.8

probably already seen on Crime Weekly news, the back to school code, thank you everyone who

0:59.1

used it. We sold a ton of coffee, a lot of cake cups, all because you guys, it ends September

1:05.1

4th. So if you want it, get in on it. There you go. 10 seconds on the money. Impressed. That was

1:13.6

perfect. Yep. That's it. I am impressed. That's it. Wow. I was like, can you keep in track? Yeah,

1:23.6

you did. You're not seeming counting on my fingers. No, I was looking at the camera. Dude, it was 10

1:27.7

seconds exactly. And I was like, he's about to go over. He's about to go over. And then I'm going

1:32.7

to get that smug look on my face, but you got nothing. Bravo. Yeah. So you guys know. All right.

1:40.9

So this is a great case. I know Derek was really into it last episode. So we're going to

1:48.8

continue. Is there, I guess, I don't, should I just dive right in? It feels weird. I'm like

1:55.4

still really over the 10 second, like perfect timing. I mean, to think of all the things that's

2:01.3

going on in this relationship, that's what's impressive. That's what is impressive to me. That's

2:05.2

crazy. I don't know if you're going to get to it. So I will just double back real quick, because

2:08.9

obviously we end these episodes. And then I start thinking about them. And I'm like playing

2:12.3

out different scenarios. And if you recall in my last episode, in our last episode, I was like,
