A very wise man once said, paraphrasing, that no success can compensate for failure in the family.

Now he was talking to parents, right? And he was referring to career success. No success can compensate for

failure in the family. Now, how does that apply to backcountry hunting?

Friends, today we're going to talk about how to set up a rifle for a kid

to give them the best possible shot success.

And this is a really important thing and the kind of the crucial nature of it was

driven home to me recently when a nearby range owner and I held our second annual youth hunter clinic.

So this is loosely patterned on NRL hunter type shooting right where you have

scenarios that are based on real life potential situations and you go into it with

your hunting rifle that preferably for these youth the rifle

they're actually going to hunt with that fall and they work their way through

this scenario you know getting the best position they can, range the target, make

the best possible shots they can, and learn and grow from this. Really, really cool event,

uh, Day Mountain Ranch and the Day Mountain Range that's

associated with it were the facility that kind of sponsored this event and I was more or less just the guy that helped organize it and

put it together right we had a good number of youth that came out really good

turnout and we managed to those of us putting the the shoot on pooled our money and

and bought a Winchester 6.8 Western for the first place and Leopold

bless their hearts donated a nice rifle scope and a rangefinder for

second and third place and we had some really good young shooters and some really happy shooters and just it turned into a really good

event overall. I brought a bunch of stuff just equipment, spare equipment and laid out a prize table so that everybody came, got something,

whether it was a rifle sling, or a couple boxes of ammo,
