I'm really pleased today to be joined by Shannon Watts, who is the founder of an extremely important, effective grassroots advocacy group in the country.

Mom's Demand Action has a membership of over six million.

It is the first group that went toe to toe with the NRA and stopped them cold in their tracks

over these recent years.

But I want to go back to the beginning when you founded the organization, Shannon, which was after Newtown.

And it is a date I remember very clearly. And I remember it also in the context of my whole

life experience. And we're the same age. We're both 52.

We were just over 30 on 9-11.

From my perspective, the Newtown tragedy

was the worst news event day of my life.

There has never been a day that was as shocking, as unequal,

as understandable as that, as that day.

It's the only time in my lifetime that I can genuinely remember, a president of the

United States could not get through in a moment of tragedy, and rightfully so. I had a first grader at that time, but he could not get through

his remarks. And I remember that vividly. And so talk about your reaction to that day,

the shock of it. And then what comes comes next because what comes next is this amazing
