It took centuries for people for Chinese alchemists to realize that gunpowder wasn't medicine, or that black powder wasn't medicine.

Right.

So they were trying to make medicine, and they traded it as medicine, and then it wasn't until iron foundry engineer started building these cast cylinders that you were like, holy crap, this isn't black powder, this is gunpowder.

Right.

This will revolutionize the world of war, the profession of war fighting.

Yeah.

They didn't recognize cannons.

They didn't recognize torpedoes.

They didn't recognize airplanes.

Go in any point of history where a new emerging technology comes.

Everyone who's looking at it doesn't recognize it

because they're extrapolating from the past. Right. Right, right, right. And especially when the

domain changes, you don't recognize it. China burning their merchant fleet, they had the most

powerful Navy could have just easily taken over North America and colonized it, easy, unconstested.

Such a great point that it seems to be a recurrent blind spot for people and therefore

an extremely important moral of the human story is that when the shelling point moves,

you better, better fucking adapt quickly. Yeah. Otherwise, it could cost you literally everything. Yeah. Quickly. Yeah.
