podcast today. My old friend, good friend, Branko, we've known each other, I don't know, a decade at this

point. Bronco Marcheteach, who is a writer at Jacobin, and in my opinion, one of the smartest

analysts today writing on a diversity of areas, but particularly civil liberties and national

security.

And we've invited Bronco, or I've invited Bronco, I'm going to take all the credit, Derek,

talk about what's going on with Mahmoud Khalil. So Bronco, thank you so much for joining me today.

Anything to get you on my side. Before we actually go into what's talking about Khalil,

I do want to see as someone who has been paying very close attention to Trump for nigh close

to a decade, as you say over in New Zealand. What do you actually see as the differences between Trump one and Trump

two? Because just to be completely intellectually honest, I go back and forth. So on one hand,

it does seem like he came in guns blazing in a way that he really did it the first time.

You get the executive orders, you get Doge, you get the tariffs.

But then it seems like it's a little bit of a reversion to, quote, unquote, normal in the sense

that Doge is now being audited, predictably, once the cabinet secretaries have consolidated

the power of their own agencies, they're not going to be as open to Doge or the various attempts for Elon Musk and his people

to try to take them over.

You get these tariffs, which seem like genuinely new, but then he has these gigantic carve-outs.

And the things that are really terrible and that we are talking about with the deportation

of political radicals, legal permanent residence, green card holders, citizens sometimes swept up in these
