So deserving listeners, as I've talked about before in previous episodes, my malpractice insurance,

0:14.3

it sends me case examples of situations in which a therapist gets sued successfully by their clients or someone else.

0:23.4

Whenever I see these emails, I always read them.

0:27.1

There's so much that can be learned from what is in these case examples.

0:32.4

You not only learn about the law, of course, but you learn about ethical codes.

0:37.0

You also learn how these laws are

0:39.2

applied, which is actually not always intuitive and doesn't always match up with the common

0:45.3

understandings within our field. Judges and lawyers and juries, they don't always agree with

0:51.7

the way that us therapists, us counselors, see things, and they sometimes make very weird decisions.

1:16.1

sleepless nights where we're like on, you know, we're teetering on our, you know, losing our

1:21.1

profession, our livelihood. Another reason why I love these case examples is because of Schadenfreude.

1:29.2

I get a little bit of pleasure reading about the misfortune of other people,

1:34.3

particularly when the therapist is clearly acting unethically,

1:41.3

a.k.a. stupidly.

1:43.7

Bob is with me on the podcast. Does that make me a bad person?

1:47.4

No, no, no. We find amusement where we find amusement, right? Yeah. You know, it's like the

1:53.6

pratt fall of the counseling business, you know? Yeah. It's like you're watching someone,

1:58.4

someone falls over and they're okay and you sort of laugh

2:02.0

and, you know, it's all about that.
