Summary

The national response to COVID-19 was nothing short of negligent. As over 1 million people died preventable deaths, we were once again made clear how capitalism prioritizes profit over people. The City of Oakland’s government leaders were part of the problem. On episode 11 we take a look at the cruise ship that brought Oakland its first cases and how it was organizers, not local and state officials- who stepped up to provide resources and free testing to the community. 0:09.9	Princess. In early 2020, around 3,500 people were stuck on the Grand Princess cruise ship off the
0:17.1	coast of California after a coronavirus outbreak has spread throughout the ship.

0:26.6	After sailing in circles for days, they will finally be coming ashore.

1:04.8	fit federal facilities the passengers will be held in isolation. Still the folks
1:10.1	were talking to are saying they're enormously relieved to finally get off that ship.
1:15.6	In the weeks following the docking of the Grand Princess cruise ship, hospitals in Oakland
1:20.6	became flooded with COVID-19 patients and the demographic that was
1:24.8	impacted the most in Oakland was the black community and the houseless.
