| 0:25.6 | I'm talking about dissolving your enamel around your teeth. |
| 0:28.5 | Enamel is a very complex substance. |
| 0:31.3 | It is the hardest substance in your entire body. |
| 0:34.8 | It's harder than bone. |
| 0:36.3 | But if we look at bone, the jaw bone is the hardest of all the bones. |
| 0:40.8 | And so the question is, what has the capacity to dissolve this enamel and give you cavities? |
| 0:46.4 | Is it just the acid? |
| 0:47.4 | Or certain things in the foods? |
| 0:49.0 | Well, we're going to talk about that. |
| 0:51.8 | Let's first talk about different things that you can drink that are acidic. |
| 0:58.1 | Now, when I talk about acidic, I'm talking about pH. |
| 1:01.7 | And the pH goes from 1 to 14, 14 being extremely alkaline and 1 being extremely acid. |
| 1:11.3 | And right in the middle, 7, you have something neutral. |
| 1:14.4 | Okay? |
| 1:15.4 | So the higher the pH above 7, the more alkaline it is and the lower things are below 7, |
| 1:21.6 | the more acid things are. |
| 1:23.4 | And so if you were going to talk about a pH of 1, you're talking about battery acid. |
| 1:28.6 | And then if you go up 1 to 3, we're dealing with hydrochloric acid and acid in your stomach. |
| 1:34.1 | And when we're dealing with distilled water, we're dealing with completely neutral 7. |
| 1:40.0 | Mineral water is slightly above 7. |
