0:57.3 | called rhythmic masticatory muscle activity. Well, that's just a medical term that describes what |
1:05.7 | happens when you grind your teeth. Masticatory has to do with the muscles involved with chewing |
1:10.6 | your food. And of course the term rhythmic means this regular set pattern or wave of something. |
1:18.2 | There's a couple things involved. One is related to the autonomic nervous system. |
1:23.4 | Apparently right before you start to do this at night, there's an activation of this autonomic |
1:28.2 | nervous system in this transition phase that affects the heart. Apparently the heart is involved. |
1:34.5 | You start getting an increase in pulse rate, which is interesting. Okay, what's up with that? |
1:39.3 | Well, both of those are involved with the autonomic nervous system that system that works on automatic |
1:45.3 | and it controls a lot of different parts of your body. Well, less than a second before this |
1:49.8 | occurs, 0.8 seconds to be exact. You have the stimulation or the increasing tone of your jaw |
1:55.7 | muscles that occur. And we know that's related to grinding. And so apparently this problem has |
2:00.5 | something to do with this transition phase and this dysfunction of the nervous system that |
2:08.3 | controls the muscular system, the muscles of your jaw. And just so you know, like during sleep, |
