Once upon a time, there lived a miller and his wife. They lived in the countryside, and all the farmers nearby would bring their grain

to him to be weighed and ground into flour. They had a son. He was a handsome young lad called

Alexander. He was now of age and had begun training to follow in his father's footsteps as a miller.

He was a brave young man and he worked tirelessly to learn everything from his father.

One day he was walking by the river when he met a fair young lady.

They looked at each other and smiled.

It was love.

They had been meeting every day for some time.

They met in secret so they could walk and talk alone.

You see, the fair young lady was in fact no ordinary lady.

She was a princess, daughter of the king.

Princess Eleanor.

Alexander said as he bowed as he greeted her.

Miller Alexander, she replied as she curtsied.

This day, however, was not like all the rest.

They had vowed never to be apart,

and Eleanor had agreed with her whole heart to marry Alexander.

Eleanor's mother, the Queen, was overjoyed to hear this news,

but she knew the King would not be pleased.

He wanted Eleanor to marry a prince from the neighbouring kingdom.

When he heard the news, the king was upset.
