And tonight's talk is about being seen in the eye of another and the importance of being known

in terms of both emotional well-being, alleviating the epidemic of loneliness that is part and parcel

of life in the U.S. and late-stage capitalism.

So tonight's talk is going to be based on a lot of neuropsychology.

I'm not going to go through and citate everything,

but if you'd like to do any of your own research,

I highly recommend the work of people like John Cacioppo,

Louis Casilino, Dan Siegel, Stephen Porges, Alan Shore,

Matthew Lieberman, Barbara Fredrickson. Some of the most important living psychologists today have been focusing on interpersonal neurobiology and what is the stuff that allows us to feel safe

and connected and allows us to regulate our nervous systems and to be healthy.
