James 517 tells us that Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are.

He lived and served God under a wicked king, and yet, in spite of the wickedness around him,

he was a man who not only walked with

God he had the power of God on his life in this study a man like us in times like

ours Scott Paulie will share encouragement from the life of Elijah that will help

us make a difference for Christ in our generation.

Life is a journey. It matters not how great a person you are, how many steps you have taken,

how many wonderful stops you've enjoyed along the way,

the reality is none of us can make this journey in our own strength.

It's too great for us.

And this is the message of First Kings chapter 19.

Now, we're going to spend a little time in this chapter because there is so much truth in it for us.

But if you'll permit me today, I'd like to read

to you the opening verses, really the thrust of the story, and make a few observations about

the journey of life. You remember that Elijah has just run off of Mount Carmel. He outran

Ahab's chariot. He has that great enabling of the Holy Spirit and no doubt

the rush, the thrill of having seen God work. But I'll remind you that often after the great

victories and other battle comes, and the Bible says in verse 1 of chapter 19, and Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done.

And with all, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword, then Jezebel sent a messenger

unto Elijah saying, so let the gods do to me and more also if I make not thy life as the life

of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

And when he saw that, he arose and went for his life.
