volume from Word on Fire, Press, is The Sign of the Cross, recovering the power of the ancient

prayer. Our topic today. Welcome, Mr. Gese. I'm glad to be here. Thank you for having me.

All right. Well, you have, we'll jump right in.

You have an epigraph from St. Alkin of York that links the motion of the hand in the sign of the

cross to, quote, the divine torture. Do most believers, do you think, keep this pain in mind really consciously when they make

the sign? I doubt if most believers even think of that when they make a sign of the cross.

But they should. Well, one of the purposes of the book was to alert people to the various reasons why they should be paying more attention to what they're doing when they make the sound of the cross.

I mean, yeah, making, I mean, you make the sign of the cross.
