Julie Potiker is a mindfulness expert who helps others bring more peace and wellness into their lives through her Mindful Methods for Life program offerings. Her new book is “SNAP! From Chaos to Calm.”



A former attorney, Julie is a Certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and founder of the Balanced Mind Meditation Center in La Jolla, California. She began her in-depth study of mindfulness after graduating from the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program at the University of California, San Diego. She was trained by Kristin Neff, Christopher Germer, and UCSD as a Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher. She went on to study with Rick Hanson, becoming a graduate of his Positive Neuroplasticity Training Professional Course. Julie also completed Brené Brown’s Living Brave Semester.



Julie’s first book, “Life Falls Apart, but You Don’t Have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos,” is now available on audiobook. I'd love it if you could start by telling listeners how about with a severe stress in your own life led you on this path.

Oh wow, so going back many many many many years I was sitting in a neurologist's office hoping

to rule out a brain tumor because my speech was garbled my words were

screwed up and he ruled that my brain was healthy but it was suffering from extreme stress.

He recommended mindfulness-based stress reduction, MBSR, which is an excellent, you know, kind of gold standard class that was created by John Cabavitzin in 1979 actually the year I graduated from high school.

So consequently it's been studied up and down and sideways because people in the West

want these things to be evidence-based so that they can then be taught in hospitals in pain clinics, etc, etc.
