Hey everyone. So people keep sharing with me this article from the Cripplegate that gives more information

0:04.8

about this Steve Lawson inappropriate relationship, which should probably just be called an affair.

0:11.6

And they want to know, I guess what I think about it, I don't have a lot to say. It's not something I want to dedicate a whole episode to.

0:17.1

I think I've already said my piece on it, but I will reaffirm what I've said before, which is that I think there's a lot of really unusual ecclesiology at play here, where Steve Lawson is, apparently we find out now, he has left the church, and it wouldn't be wise, apparently, for him to return to the church that he was at

0:38.2

when this sin was going on and it wouldn't be prudent according to some of the counselors,

0:45.2

which are a third party, I guess, third party counselors, not the elders at his church,

0:49.8

but it wouldn't be prudent for him to publicly make a statement about it of repentance or just

0:56.6

admission or, you know, anything. And it's just, it's so weird to me because you look at like

1:03.4

Peter and how Paul rebuked him. It was a public sin, public rebuke, right? It was a serious thing.

1:09.2

This is a serious thing. A lot of people looked up to Steve Lawson. It's a public sin. What do you expect, right? People who have been under Steve

1:16.4

Lawson's influence in his various ministry capacities are going to have questions and they're going

1:21.5

to talk about it. They're going to wonder. It's going to probably tempt some of them.

1:25.2

Scripture talks about this. Leaders have the potential to

1:28.9

tempt others into sin when they sin. You're even instructed to be careful when spiritually restoring

1:34.7

someone lest you be tempted. But I also think of the importance of the local church comforting someone

1:40.6

who's truly repentant, which is apparently what this blog is saying is that, well, he is truly repentant. And so there isn't need to go through all the Matthew 18 stuff.

1:48.4

Okay, great. So shouldn't he be at his local church receiving the comfort that Second Corinthians too

1:53.4

talks about for someone who's in sin, who's repentant, it's time for the church to not ostracize him,

1:59.0

but come around him and comfort him and be part of the restoration process.

2:02.5

But those things aren't happening here because of the celebrity.

2:06.3

Let's just face it.

2:07.0

It's the celebrity status of Steve Lawson.
