1:00.0 | Brand name of this medication is Zometta and reclassed. It is a bisphosphonate. So if you remember from |
1:08.1 | previous medications, a bisphosphonate is basically a medication that can be |
1:13.3 | utilized for osteoporosis. Zolodronic acid can also be used in the hypercalcemia of |
1:26.4 | malignancy management as well. |
1:29.3 | So that's an important indication to remember too. |
1:32.5 | So again, as a reminder, bisphosphonates in general, |
1:37.1 | they prevent bone resorption by inhibiting osteoclast. |
1:43.0 | That's definitely a mechanism that I've seen come up on |
1:47.1 | pharmacology exams and board exams throughout my career. So remembering that bisphosphonates |
1:52.4 | inhibit osteoclastinates is really, really important. This medication is an IV injection, |
2:00.1 | typically given over 15 minutes, and it is dosed on an annual basis in the management of osteoporosis, typically. |
2:12.6 | Adverse effect profile, so with this IV injection or infusion over 15 minutes, flu-like symptoms can happen. |
2:24.3 | And they can last for, you know, a period of days, maybe even up to a week or two after that injection. |
