Bill Robles has sketched some of the most recognizable faces throughout his career.

Whether or not you know it, you've likely seen his work, not at a museum, but during

coverage of some of the country's most high-profile trials.

For over 50 years, Bill has carefully observed and captured intense emotions and dramatic events that have unfolded through

his courtroom illustrations. Bill's career began in 1970 with the murder trial of Charles Manson.

Bill's art was broadcast on TV, giving viewers across the country a look at their dramatic scenes

that took place inside the courtroom.

From there, Bill has sketched numerous other historic trials.

O.J. Simpson, the Oklahoma City Bombers, the Menendez brothers, Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton,

even Britney Spears. Bill's work has also garnered many incredible awards, including the Lifetime

Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, as well as the gold medal

award from the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles. Today, Bill continues to share his talents

and teaches drawing and illustration at the Art Center College of Design.

Bill Robles joins me now for a look at his illustrious career and some of the most memorable artworks he's created and some of the most memorable courtroom scenes he's witnessed.

What a unique and beautiful craft and art that you do, and it's so special.

And I think some argue that it might be fading out, unfortunately, from our everyday existence in courts,

I guess, at least with the exception of federal, thankfully, for us right now.

But why don't you share how you got started and your love of art and how it evolved?

I had a successful career as an illustrator in Los Angeles, and I graduated from Art Center

College of Design in 1961, and as I said, I had a flourishing career as an illustrator.
